This site has free calculators for ordering yard materials: gravel, rock and soil. Type in your measurements and get the cubic yards, tons or bags to order, plus an estimated cost. Every tool works in US units with a metric switch built in, for a Canadian, UK or Australian reader working in meters and tonnes.
I made this for the moment you’re standing in a yard with a tape measure, or in a big-box store aisle deciding between bags and a bulk delivery. The goal is a number you can read out to a supplier or a store clerk in under a minute, not a long article to work through first. One person builds, writes and checks every calculator here.
How the numbers are checked
Every material’s density, every suggested project depth, and every price comes from at least two independent sources, checked and dated. The calculation engine itself has automated tests built from cases worked out by hand. The full method, including a worked example, is on the How we calculate page.
What this site is not
This is not a materials supplier. It doesn’t sell gravel, rock or soil, and it doesn’t take orders. Every price shown is a typical US estimate, meant to be replaced with a real quote from your own supplier before you buy anything, since prices vary a lot by region.
No sign-up, no cookies
Every calculator runs in your browser. There’s no account to create and, at least for now, no cookies tracking your visit.
